Only 3 days into the New Year, members of the JUMPS Team arrived at a private home in Clayton, New Jersey that was divided into three separate units. Although divided, the home was only occupied by the client who maintains the property. After introductions the client gave the team a tour of the property.
Once the tour was complete, the JUMPS Team got right down to business; setting up equipment throughout the home to prepare for the investigation. With base being set up in a room located on the first floor that was sealed off from the rest of the house, they began positioning cameras in the ‘hot spots.’
The cameras were placed in the following locations:
- Camera 1 - 2nd Floor Hallway Full Spectrum with Audio
- Camera 2 - Basement (Kitchen)
- Camera 3 - Basement (Entire Area)
- Camera 4 - 1st Floor to 2nd Floor Stairs
- Camera 5 - 2nd Floor Living Room
- Camera 6 - 3rd Floor (Kitchen into Dining Room)
- Camera 7 - 3rd Floor (Bedroom 1)
- Camera 8 - 3rd Floor (Living Room into Dining Room)
- Camera 9 - 3rd Floor (Bedroom 2)
- Camera 10 - 2nd Floor (Bedroom 1)
- Camera 11 - 1st Floor Living Room
The Tascam audio recorder was placed on the third floor and investigating teams carried audio recorders with them during the investigation. Once the equipment was in place, the team shut off all the lights, locked all the doors, and began the investigation at approximately 10:00 PM.
For the first sweep, Team Leader Eileen Bramble and Trainee Tim McGuire made their way to the 3rd floor while Tech Manager Al Pagano and Investigator Rob Johnson headed to the basement. Lead Investigator Doug and Investigator Jim Worrell stayed behind at base to monitor the cameras.
When they arrived on the third floor, Eileen and Tim began conducting an EMF sweep of the entire floor using the Mel Meter. They immediately noticed that the electromagnetic field energy was reading unusually high throughout the entire area. They continued to monitor the high readings and attempted to locate a source. Unable to locate one, they began conducting an EVP session. As time passed during the session, they did not have any personal experiences however they did observe that the EMF levels slowly decreased. By the time they finished their sweep the levels on the Mel Meter had returned to normal low readings. After a sweep of the area that lasted approximately an hour, they returned to base.
While Eileen and Tim were conducting their investigation of the third floor, Al and Rob did the same in the basement. Using a K-2 meter, they did a complete EMF sweep of the entire basement. Since most basements contain the mechanics of the home; i.e. the breaker box, the heating unit, and electrical wires, Al and Rob determined where these were located. These areas were determined to be giving off high readings. Other than those normal high readings, all other areas in the basement were normal low levels. After the EMF sweep, they positioned themselves and began an EVP session. Much like the team three floors above them, they did not receive any responses nor did they have any personal experiences. Therefore, after approximately an hour of investigating, they also returned to base.
On the first level, Doug decided to make his way to the first floor living room to spend “alone time” with a K-2 Meter, Mel Meter, and digital audio recorder. He completed a sweep with the K-2 of the room and found that in one corner a high level of EMF was being read. Later he learned that on the floor below him, the basement, the electrical box was located in the same area and the electric meter was also located on the opposite side of the wall on the outside. After the sweep, he positioned himself on a couch with the K-2 Meter and the audio recorder next to him. He also positioned a REM Pod on another couch located on the opposite side of the room. He began to explain to any spirit that may be present what the devices were and how they worked. He also invited the spirit to do what they could to cause the devices to react as a way to communicate. After attempting this for approximately 30 minutes, there were no responses. Therefore, he rejoined Jim back at base.
With all teams back at base and a first sweep complete, it was determined that the activity was very quiet in the home. With no time wasted, they switched areas and headed back out to investigate. This time, Doug joined by Jim headed to the third floor while Al and Rob monitored base, and Eileen and Tim descended to the basement.
Doug and Jim climbed the two sets of steps and arrived on the third floor. They began to monitor the EMF levels using the K-2 and Mel Meter to see if they could get the same readings as Eileen and Tim did on the previous sweep. They positioned the K-2 and Mel Meter on the floor in the middle of one room and the REM Pod in the middle of the floor in another room. Then, Jim positioned himself on the floor leaning against a wall in the room with the REM Pod, and Doug positioned himself on the floor leaning against the wall in the room near the night vision infrared camera and K-2 and Mel Meter. Jim began to conduct an EVP session while Doug began recording with the full spectrum camcorder and also took part in the questioning. After a few minutes of asking questions, Doug requested that the spirit get close to the REM Pod to make the alarm sound. At that exact moment, Jim interrupted and reported that he saw a shadow of a person on the wall directly behind the night vision camera that moved quickly in Doug’s direction. As soon as Jim announced this, Doug panned the camcorder to that area while he asked if the spirit wanted to get closer to him. Suddenly, a long slide or scratch sound was heard on the opposite side of the room where Doug was positioned. Both investigators heard this noise and could not determine what caused it. Both rooms were completely empty with the exception of a heavy wooden chest and Doug and Jim were sitting in the same spots and had not moved. Requesting that if the noise was caused by a spirit to make the noise again, they were unable to get a second response. Then, moments later, Doug heard a single noise come from a room located on the opposite side of the stairs. He paused for a moment to listen. Again moments later, he heard what sounded like some object was being moved or slid on the floor. He then got up from his seated position and moved to these areas. He searched around and noticed an object on the floor that could have been moved but he was unable to determine with certainty that it was. The two continued to listen and attempt to find answers to their experiences but nothing could be determined. Therefore, they moved on to the second floor.
While the activity seemed to be picking up for Doug and Jim on the third floor, Eileen and Tim began noticing some interesting K-2 spikes in the basement. Once they arrived, they positioned a digital voice recorder and K-2 on a table located in a larger area of the basement. They began to conduct an EVP session as well as maneuvering around the basement between the open areas and kitchen, staying clear of the mechanics so they would not receive false readings from the energy that was being released. They noticed some responses to questions on the K-2 however they noted that these possible responses were not consistent enough to determine that they had made contact with a ghost presence. They spent approximately 45 minutes in the area before heading back up the stairs to base.
While Eileen and Tim made their way to base, Doug and Jim entered into the second floor living room. They positioned themselves each on a couch and took a few minutes to stay silent and listen to the surroundings. After approximately 5 minutes, they began another EVP session attempting to contact either the spirit that made themselves known to the grandchild or the spirit that seemed to be afraid that they would be discovered. At this time they received a call on the radio from base about something Al and Rob discovered on camera. They believed that the door where the child had the experience was pushed opened compared to what was observed after Doug and Jim entered through it. Therefore, Doug and Jim left the living room to investigate the door. They were unable to determine if the door had opened itself since the two passed through, however they were able to determine that the door does open on its own if left in a certain position. The position it stops in is the same position as the door was observed to be in on the initial report. The camera footage was reviewed and the findings will be listed in the conclusion section of this report. After this series of tests, they entered into the living room again. Continuing to attempt to make contact, they asked several more questions. After an additional 40 minutes, they experienced no activity or responses. At this time they returned to base.
At this point, the entire team decided to position themselves at base for approximately 45 minutes. They all monitored the cameras and gave any of the spirits present a chance to settle and the areas to calm down. Also by doing this, the team was waiting for the time to come where activity has been experienced the most; between 1:00 AM and 3:00 AM.
As 1:30 AM approached, the teams began to prepare to head back out into the areas of the house where activity has been reported. At this point, Investigator Rob had to leave the investigation which made the team now a 5 person team. For this sweep, Eileen remained at base, Al and Tim teamed together and headed to the third floor, and Doug and Jim went to the basement.
Once Tim and Al arrived on the third floor, they kept in mind the other teams reports during their sweeps but went right into following up with the reports. Al completed an EMF sweep of the entire floor with the K-2 meter to see if the electromagnetic field energy began to spike high levels again. With all levels appearing to be calm, Al then positioned himself on one knee on the floor in front of Camera 6 and Tim stood next to him. They began an EVP session using the information they received from the other teams who had been in this area. They began to hear unexplained noises coming from the two bedrooms located on the third floor. Tim immediately responded to investigate these sounds. He searched each room and the large closet of one room but found no source that could have caused it. He reentered the room where Al was sitting and they requested the sounds to be made again. After several attempts, nothing else occurred. Therefore, they made their way to the second floor.
In the basement, Doug and Jim began a sweep positioning the Mel Meter on a table where the audio recorder was positioned by the last team in the area. This time, the Mel Meter’s built-in REM Pod was activated as another way to possibly make contact. Next, they focused on making contact with the male apparition seen wearing overalls. They maneuvered around between the kitchen area and other areas of the basement. They positioned themselves in different areas to ask questions in hopes of capturing EVP’s or having personal experiences. With almost an hour passing, nothing occurred. Therefore they returned to base where they found Eileen monitoring the camera that showed Al and Tim on the second floor in the living room.
Al and Tim positioned themselves on the couches in the living room. They again attempted an EVP session and attempted to capture EVP’s just by having a side conversation themselves. At one point during this time, Eileen believed she witnessed a black mass move quickly from under a coffee table in front of Al toward him and then disappear into the couch. After reviewing the video footage, it was determined that the black mass seen was Tim’s shoe and a quick movement caused by him. They continued their sweep and returned to base after no other experiences occurred.
During this time, Jim made his way into the first floor living room to spend some “alone time” in the area. He positioned himself next to the audio recorder that Doug placed on the couch during the first sweep and began an EVP session. He continued this for approximately 20 minutes. That was when Doug arrived in the living room and positioned himself on the couch opposite Jim. They began a small side conversation summing up the activity that was experienced in the earlier sweeps. After hours of investigating, Doug decided it was time to bring the investigation to a close and begin the process of packing up.
After 30 minutes of breaking down equipment, the team said their farewells to the client and left the home at approximately 4:00 AM.
