LOCATION: 145 E Broad Street, Paulsboro, NJ

The Jersey Unique Minds Paranormal Society conducted a thorough investigation of the Gill Memorial Library in Paulsboro, NJ following multiple reports of unexplained activity by staff. Incidents included apparitions, unusual sensations and phantom noises.

• Doug Hogate Jr. - Lead Investigator

Upon arrival, the team immediately began setting up wireless night-vision IR cameras in four strategic locations:

• Camera #1: Basement
• Camera #2: First Floor Fireplace Area
• Camera #3: Second Floor – Overlooking Hallway
• Camera #4: Attic

Additional equipment used: EMF meters, REM Pods, K2 devices, digital audio recorders, body cameras, Spirit Box (SP7), and materials for “The Estes Method.”

Base Team: Mellie, Patrick, Madisyn, Joey

Investigators began on the second floor, taking baseline EMF readings and recording audio.

• Second Floor – America Room EVP Session
  • Doug, Melissa, and Susan conducted an EVP session while Jocelyn felt drawn to the attic and proceeded to investigate independently.
  • No significant EMF spikes or audible responses were initially recorded.

• ATTIC ENCOUNTER – REM POD RESPONSES & HEAVY ENERGY
  • Jocelyn began a sweep of the attic and was soon joined by Doug. She positioned herself near an antique wheelchair, where Doug placed a REM Pod.

• Early Interaction
• The REM Pod triggered immediately during questioning
• Responses were inconsistent at first
• Susan and Melissa joined; EMF sweep revealed no environmental cause
• As questioning continued, the REM Pod’s responses became consistent and seemingly intelligent.

• Notable Observations
• Melissa reported feeling the energy was connected to her personally
• The atmosphere shifted, leaving Melissa, Jocelyn, and Susan feeling overwhelmed
• Susan experienced a heavy feeling in her chest and requested to leave the attic
• Doug escorted her downstairs while she described the presence as unfamiliar and uncomfortable.

• Escalation
• Upon Doug’s return, the energy intensified.
• Melissa and Jocelyn began reacting physically
• Base team could hear the distress through camera audio
• Mellie quickly made her way to the attic.

• Mellie’s Intervention
• When Mellie entered
• Melissa became overwhelmed and left with Doug
• Jocelyn remained with Mellie
• Mellie took authoritative control, verbally directing any negative spirits to leave
• After several minutes of firm commands, the atmosphere noticeably lightened and the negativity subsided.

All investigators reconvened at base to regroup.

The team returned to the attic to test whether the negative energy was still present.

Initially, responses on the REM Pod and K2 devices were minimal.

• Joey’s Interaction
  • When Joey began addressing potential spirits:
  • He referenced his early days working at the library and playing music
  • The REM Pod responded immediately
  • Questions about preservation work and library history also produced consistent responses
  • The spirit or spirits appeared familiar with Joey and library activity.

The team thanked the entity and returned to base.

This sweep focused on the area where a female apparition had previously been seen, including by staff member Madisyn, who once spoke to the apparition believing she was a real person.

  • Jocelyn: Bathroom area
  • Melissa: Near the America Room
  • Doug: Top of stairway with body cam running

A REM Pod was placed just outside the apparition room.

• Activity
  • REM Pod responded to questions directed at the female spirit
  • Loud affirmative reaction when asked if she appreciated the staff’s work
  • When asked if a former employee’s spirit was present (with his wrestling jacket nearby), the REM Pod gave an immediate “yes” indication

• Child Spirit Interaction
  • Melissa reported:
    • The sensation of someone touching her legs
    • A playful energy, consistent with a child
    • A positive, warm atmosphere

Patrick and Joey confirmed that antique school desks were stored nearby and that the spirit of a child has been reported previously.

Doug attempted solo communication on the second floor:

• Brief, inconsistent responses from possible child or female spirit
• No reaction from any entity responsible for earlier negative experiences

Doug concluded the session and returned to base.

Team: Doug, Melissa, Susan, Jocelyn

Jocelyn acted as the Estes Method receiver, blindfolded and wearing noise-canceling headphones. Positioned beside the antique wheelchair, she began verbalizing words she heard through the Spirit Box.

Initially random, the responses soon:

• Corresponded directly to questions asked
• Related to Susan’s personal life and library business
• Matched inquiries about the property and its history
• Occurred simultaneously with REM Pod activations

The session lasted about ten minutes until Doug ended it to avoid overwhelming Jocelyn.

Afterward, Jocelyn reported the sensation of someone standing directly behind her, though no investigator had moved during the session.

The team returned to base visibly shocked by the accuracy and consistency of the responses.
